Wilson College and WISMAT participates annually in National Lab Day by providing opportunities for area high school students to conduct labs in biology, chemistry, geology, physics and environmental science, side-by-side with Wilson Science faculty, in the state-of-the-art Brooks Complex for Science, Mathematics and Technology.

This
seminar series brings prominent women in the sciences to the Wilson
College campus to provide insight into their research and how it relates
to our society. Previous speakers have included Dr. Pamela Glass,
microbiologist with the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious
Disease, who spoke about the development of vaccines, and Dr. Julia
Blum, radiation oncologist with Summit Health, who spoke about new
techniques in treating cancer patients.
In addition to a wide variety of courses available through our Teacher Intern Program and Master's in Education program, Wilson is developing workshops on communicating science, and how to engage girls in science and math classes.
Wilson College has been a sponsor of the Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair, held each year at Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg. WISMAT sponsors an award for Outstanding Project by a Female Student. The 2010 winner was Kaela Curcillo, an eighth grader at Holy Name of Jesus School. Her project "Some Like it Hot" investigated the cause of varying levels of "heat" in different varieties of peppers. The 2011 winner is Izzy Naguski, from the Londonderry School. Her project, "Hatching Pollution" evaluated pollution levels in creek water below a fish hatchery. The 2012 winner is Lindsay Mullady, from St. Joan of Arc School. Her project was "Solar Water Disinfection."
Wilson College also participates in the Franklin Science and Technology Fair. Wilson science faculty serve as judges for the event.
