Positioning Wilson to Thrive

The Commission on Shaping the Future of Wilson College

In fall 2011, the Wilson College Board of Trustees recognized that the College must achieve financial sustainability and authorized the establishment of the Commission on Shaping the Future of Wilson College. President Barbara K. Mistick appointed a cross-functional commission to review institutional data and market analysis data. Members used the data to form five work groups: Programs, Finance and Pricing, (New and Current) Markets, Quality of Life, and College Success Stories. The subgroups began meeting in May 2012 to conduct a strategic review of the data. Their charge was to recommend to President Mistick the optimum scenario for Wilson to attain financial sustainability and thrive into the future. The President has reviewed the Commission’s report and developed her recommendations for the Board. The trustees are meeting November 30 and December 1 to make a final decision.

The commission process was transparent and included three phases with feedback loops from all college constituents:

Phase I -- Data collection and analysis:  Stevens Strategy, a higher education consulting firm, reviewed and considered over 46 data sources, both internal and external to Wilson College. Stevens Strategy also conducted a survey that was sent to current and prospective students and alumnae/i and collected current market data.

Phase II -- Work groups recommended strategic ideas, Nov. 12, 2012.

Phase III -- President Mistick submitted final recommendations to the Wilson College Board of Trustees, Nov. 20, 2012.

9/25/12    Town Hall Meeting in Philadelphia
10/17/12  Second open campus meeting -- Phase II strategic ideas
10/25/12  Town Hall Meeting in Washington, D.C./Baltimore area

11/1/12    Third open campus meeting -- Phase III final recommendations Presentations will begin at 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. with a repeat of the program from 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Brooks Auditorium.

12/1/12     Special meeting of the Wilson College Trustees to decide on recommendations
