Scholars Program

The Wilson Scholars Program is a recent expression of Wilson College’s long-term commitment to academic rigor in the liberal arts – a commitment extending back to the college’s founding in 1869.

The Wilson Scholars Program functions as Honors programs do at other colleges and universities. Our goal is to offer challenging courses and exciting extracurricular opportunities for highly motivated and academically talented students.

Scholars Program Eligibility and Requirements

Eligibility

  • 3.5 high school (or transfer) grade-point average or minimum SAT of 1,100, ACT of 24 or TOEFL of 650.
  • Letter of interest in the program.
  • Interview with the program director is recommended and may be completed by telephone.
  • For students already enrolled at Wilson College who seek admission, a grade-point average of at least 3.5, letter of interest, faculty recommendation and an interview with the program director.

Requirements

  • Complete five honors courses. Typically, first-year students enroll in English 180 and Honors First-Year Seminar in the fall, and one honors-designated course in the spring. Students select other honors courses as their schedules permit. Students may develop honors contracts with faculty for non-honors designated courses to satisfy one of the five required honors courses. Such courses may simultaneously meet transdisciplinary studies (TDS) and writing intensive (WI) curricular requirements.
  • Maintain a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. Students whose GPA drops below 3.0 in any semester must petition the Director of Honors with an approved plan for improving her grades to remain in the program.
