Application Procedures
Please submit the following materials:
- Application - Complete application for admission and submit electronically your responses to essays in Part V and Part VI.
- Resume
- $35 non-refundable application fee (check payable to Wilson College)
- Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate colleges and universities attended must be sent directly to the Director of the M. Ed. Program. For Wilson transcripts, please check the box on the M.Ed. transcript form and send the form to Wilson's Registrar. An "unofficial" transcript will be sent, at no cost, to the Director of the M.Ed. This is the only "unofficial" transcript we accept.
- Two letters of recommendation from educators or employers. Please note one letter should be from your current principal or supervisor. Letters should be mailed directly to the Director of the M.Ed. Program.
- Personal interview with the Director of the Master of Education after all of the above materials have been received and reviewed.
Non-degree students may enroll in any Master of Education course for which they have the necessary prerequisites with the approval of the Director of the M.Ed. Program. A student must be formally admitted to the M.Ed. Program prior to enrolling in the fourth M. Ed. course in order for the prior coursework to count towards the degree.
Master of Education Entrance Requirements
Female and male elementary and secondary teachers will meet the entrance requirements as delineated below. Admission is competitive, and space is limited. Thus interested students should apply early. Degree Program Admission is based on the following criteria:
- Completion of the baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
- A minimum undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Completion of an application for admission to the Master of Education.
- Two letters of recommendation
- A current certification for eligibility to teach in grades K-12
- Foundations in statistics and technology, as approved by the Director of the Program.
Provisional Status
Provisional status allows a student to enroll in graduate classes in order to qualify for admission to the degree program. A student may be granted provisional status by the program director after a plan of action is developed which will assist the student to meet the entrance requirements of the program.
If a student is granted provisional status, the student must first satisfactorily complete the educational plan approved by the program director with a GPA of 3.0 or higher before being officially admitted to the program.
Master of Education Graduation Requirements
The successful Master of Education candidate will complete 10 course credits, which includes a Master’s Project, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Graduate course credit will be awarded only for earned grades of C or better. An electronic portfolio of course materials is also required at the completion of the M.Ed. Program.
All course work and degree requirements must be completed within six years of taking the first class in the M.Ed. Program. Appeals for extension of the six-year limit must be submitted in writing to the Director of the M.Ed.
