Events and Volunteer Opportunities

Wednesday, Nov. 19: Join Wilson College at a free banquet aimed at educating people about the problem of hunger worldwide. The Oxfam America Hunger Banquet will be held at 5 p.m. Nov. 19, in Laird Hall on the Wilson campus. Guests will share a meal based on the food disparities present in our world today. Representatives of South Central Community Action Programs (SCCAP), a nonprofit cooperative that works with families and the community to break the cycle of poverty, will share information about local initiatives to ease food insecurity and discuss how people can get involved in those efforts.Admission to the banquet is free, but donations encouraged. Donations will go to SCCAP and Oxfam America. RSVPs are requested by Nov. 12 and may be made online at The banquet is sponsored by Wilson’s residence life and chaplain’s offices, as well as the college Diversity Team and the Office of Student Development. Oxfam America is an international relief and development organization that creates solutions to poverty, hunger and injustice. More information can be found on its website,
