Wilson Comes Up Short Against Bridgewater on the Road

Posted: September 20, 2013

The Wilson College field hockey team fell to the Bridgewater Eagles tonight 3-1 on the road. The Phoenix played the Eagles tough early, but unfortunately saw the game slip from their reach.

Neither team took the advantage offensively as the first half displayed low scoring with Wilson and Bridgewater tied 1-1. Junior Hillary Swartz scored for the Phoenix off a pass by freshman Lauren Hampton. Despite being outshot in the half 8-3, Wilson was able to put pressure on Bridgewater offense and stop them at one goal.

Bridgewater attacked Wilson’s defense early in the second half and jumped out to take a 3-1 quick lead over the Phoenix. Wilson could not execute any offensive momentum to catch up to the Eagles and totaled five shots in the second half.

Senior Megan Schneck, Hillary Swartz, and sophomore Taylor Crouse recorded two shots apiece in the match. Sophomore goalkeeper Gina Weigold recorded six saves in net.

Wilson returns home on Sunday, September 22 when they host the College of Notre Dame of Maryland at 1pm. The contest marks a blue and white day at Wilson. Any Wilson student wearing royal blue will receive a white t-shirt. Students must bring their ID.
