Students Show Their Effort and Passion During Student Research Day

The college celebrated its third annual Student Research Day on Fri, April 27. Thirty three seniors presented their undergraduate research work in the Harry R Brooks Complex for Science, Mathematics and Technology. Nineteen students participated in poster sessions.

Associate Professor of English, Larry Shillock, says, "We prepare this valuable event to honor the work that our students do with faculty, to see research as accommodating experience and to inspire other students to think and prepare themselves when they become a senior." This event connects internal class experience and achievement to the public and campus communities.

Hockenberry awarded Disert Honor Scholar Award

This year’s Disert Honor Scholar was Alyssa Hockenberry ‘12. Hockenberry’s project is titled, ‘The Art of Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg." She analyzed how both artists influenced each other through their work.

Another presenter, Ciera Rhodes, ‘12 researched the effects of synthetic estrogen on hard clams. Rhodes ‘12 says, "It is great opportunity as an undergraduate level to present my research in front of others."

Creating an academic community

Alumnae Relations Publications Associate, Emma Lewis who participated in the Media and Society class’s poster session says, "We are all a part of this community, but rarely do we get to see what the rest of the campus members are doing, so this is a great was to support each other."


Student Research Day is not only a great opportunity for seniors to display their hard work, but it is also an serves as inspiration to underclassmen looking to devise their own senior thesis.
