The Hunt Seat and Dressage teams have finished their respective show seasons, which started last semester. The Hunt Seat Team finished their regular season with a two-day show in New Jersey at Briarwood Farm on Sat, March 16 and Sun, March 17.

Riders qualify for Regional Show

Two riders qualified for the Regional Show that occurred on Sat, March 30 at Briarwood. Two Hunt Seat Team members, Ashleen McCullough ‘15 and Kaylee Moog ‘14. McCullough showed in Novice level over fences at Regionals and placed fourth. In this class, she jumped a course of eight jumps, then judged on her ability to ride the horse she rode. Moog showed in the Walk/Trot division, placing fourth as well. Starting next school year both riders will show in the division above their current one. McCullough will show in Intermediate over fences and Moog will show in Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter.

“We had a very successful show season,” said Hunt Seat Team Coach, Gina Hall. “I am already trying to recruit new members for next year.”
Dressage Team competes at Penn State

The Dressage Team finished up their season on Sat, April 6 at Penn State Main Campus in State College, PA. The team placed fourth at the show and placed third in the region, just shy of qualifying for the National Show as a team at Mount Holyoke College.

On the day of the show at Penn State many team members placed sixth. However two riders placed above the sixth place mark. Michelle Calka ‘15 rode in the Lower Training class and placed second. Kelsey Peterson ‘14 also showed in the Lower Training class and placed fifth. These different levels are determined by the elements that the rider is expected to have their horse perform. As the rider moves into higher levels, the elements become harder. Lower Training is a lower level than First Level.

Snyder qualifies for National Show

Katie Snyder ‘14 placed sixth in her First Level test and qualified to the National Show ending the season near the top of her level. She will compete as an individual rider. Elizabeth Hart ‘13 last enjoyed this honor when she showed at Nationals in 2011 in Florida.

“We had a tremendous season,” said Snyder. “My hope is that we can continue this for next year.”
