If New Yorkers enjoy Fashion Week, Wilson has its own fashion "night." This year, Wilson's Habitat for Humanity campus chapter held a fashion show and auction on Sat, Oct. 16 in Laird Hall's Patterson Lounge.

The auction featured more than 100 formal gowns that J & B Bridals and Tuxedos (a wedding dress retailer), donated for the cause. Many students and faculty members joined in the fashion show as models.

Raising money for the cause

According to Rebecca Dennison, President of Wilson's Habitat for Humanity, the fashion show and auction were for Wilson's habitat work trip during Alternative Spring Break (ASB), which will be during this year's spring semester. After the fashion show, participants could bid on the exhibited gowns through a silent auction that started at $20.00. The money from the auction will be used to pay for students who participate in the work trip.

ASB's annual spring adventure

ASB is a well-known work trip at Wilson because students get opportunities to volunteer during spring break. The students, who apply for the work trip, generally help some people have their own dwelling. Habitat for Humanity plans to go to North Carolina this spring in order to build or reconstruct housing needed by the state's residents. In the wake of a massive U.S. housing crisis, this will undoubtedly be an event welcomed by the state's residents. Every student is eligible to apply for the volunteer work trip but there is a maximum limit of 15 people. Contact Rosie Magee at to sign up for this year's trip.
