During the spring 2010 Dog Wash, the Veterinary Medicine Technology (VMT) Club managed to wash 148 dogs and raise $1,901.00 for the Club and the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter. The VMT Club, a student club at Wilson College, ran their bi-annual Dog Wash fundraiser on Sat., Mar. 6, 2010 and Sun., Mar. 7, 2010 at the Veterinary Medical Center on Wilson College campus.

Dog Wash grows in popularity

The spring 2010 Dog Wash saw a record number of 148 dogs during the weekend. Kira Stone '10, the VMT Club President, claimed that the turn-out was so large that the club had to start turning people away. Stone attributed this success to the community’s continued support of both the College and the VMT Club.

According to the club’s Faculty Advisor and Prof. of Veterinary Medical Technology, Tina Roles, the VMT Club has run the Dog Washes for at least ten years. Due to their success, the club decided to extend the event to a twice a year. Members of the VMT Club claim that the dog wash has seen a continuous increase in the number of attending dogs over the years. This continuous increase led to the extension of the single day event into a two-day event.

An affordable service

The VMT Club, a group of less than ten students, came together over the March weekend to wash as many dogs as possible. Charges for the dog washing varied according to size of the dog. The service included a bath, a nail trim, an ear cleaning and a drying. Toy dog owners were charged $5.00; small dog owners were charged $8.00; medium dog owners were charged $13.00; large dog owners were charged $15.00; and extra-large dog owners were charged $20.00.

Giving to a good cause

Proceeds from the event will go towards the club’s spring trip to the Baltimore Aquarium and towards the local Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter. The club donated $675.00 of proceeds from the two dog washes in fall 2008 and spring 2009 to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter last year. This year, they hope to donate more.
