The Wilson College Field Hockey team has attained two NCAA Division III #1 National Rankings through their games ending Sun, Oct. 3, 2010.
#1 in Shutouts per Game in the Nation
Their first #1 ranking is in the category of shutouts per game. The team has not allowed a goal in seven of their nine games, giving them a shutout per game percentage of .78. Three other schools are tied at the 2nd spot with a percentage of .67.
Only 4 Goals Allowed in 9 Games
Sophomore goalkeeper, Brandy Holtzapple (Red Lion, PA / Red Lion) has recorded all seven shutouts for the Phoenix. Wilson Hockey also leads the nation in the statistical category of goals against average. In 646 minutes of total game time, the team has allowed only 4 goals, resulting in an average of .43. Kean College ranks under Wilson with an average of .49.
Senior Leadership
Head coach Shelly Novak attributes the team’s success as the result of exceptional senior leadership, and the depth and tremendous work ethic of the entire team. According to Novak, “we have great senior leadership, particularly in our defense. Our goalkeeper Brandy Holtzapple has also made great individual improvements to her game this year.”
Winning Record
The Phoenix are currently 7-2 on the season with six games remaining. Thursday the team travels to York College to take on the Spartans.
