Academic Support Center

Wilson College offers a variety of academic support services, including individual and group tutoring, writing support, assistance with study skills, note taking, time management, and test taking, as well as disability support services for eligible students.

Tutors and Writing Support

Tutor services are available in many subject areas/courses and are often led by Dean's List students. The services may be temporary or on-going according to student needs.

Additionally, writing support services are available to strengthen students' writing abilities. Writing assistance helps in outlining and organizing thoughts, drafting, developing a thesis, researching methods and documentation, and editing as well as revising.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q

Who will I see?

A

In-person appointments are available with faculty-recommended writing tutors.

Q

What should I expect during these sessions?

A

The tutor will help you identify errors and provide instruction on how to correct problem areas. Do not expect the tutor to proofread your paper or re-write sections for you.

Q

If seeking writing support, should I bring anything besides my paper?

A

Yes! Bring a copy of the assignment or notes you took regarding the paper. Also, let the tutor know what style of paper you are preparing -- MLA, APA, etc.

Q

If seeking tutoring assistance, what should I bring?

A

Please bring your course syllabus, assignments or homework you are having problems with, specific questions, and appropriate writing supplies (pencil and paper).

Q

What if no writing tutor is available during my available days/times?

A

If you are having a difficult time accessing a writing tutor during the day, please email your paper to our Online Writing Lab (OWL).

This service is ideal for students with time and/or distance constraints. However, please be aware that there may be times when a paper needs more help than is possible with an online review. When this happens, we will make every effort to work with your schedule for an in-person appointment.
