CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Wilson College Drama Club, known as the Kittochtinny Players, will perform Commedia Tonight! at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, in Thomson Hall’s Alumnae Chapel. Admission to the shows, which are open to the public, is free.

Commedia Tonight! consists of two short plays in the style of Italian commedia dell’ arte, by British playwright Barry Grantham. Both plays are broad comic farces, and feature stock characters from the Commedia tradition, such as Arlecchino, Pantalone, Zanni, the Capitano, and Pedrolino. Commedia is a classic theater art form, which developed in Italy and spread throughout western Europe, reaching its height in the 16th and 17th centuries. The two fundamental characteristics of the form are the use of a set of stock comic characters and improvisation of the performance from a basic scenario.

Wilson’s production features students Lauren Kershner as Arlecchino and Zanni, Samantha Klopp as Pantalone, Carol Zehosky as Captain Spavento and the Capo Comico (the leader of the Commedia troupe), Elizabeth Boratenski as Lelio and Johanna Romain as Franceschina, a wily maidservant. Wilson graduate Jennifer Fisher plays Pedrolino and Spanish department teaching assistant Carla Grignola plays Isabella, Pantalone's daughter.

The production is directed and designed by Richard Shoap, Wilson adjunct instructor of theater.
