The Wilson College field hockey team posted a 2-1 victory over the Neumann University Knights yesterday afternoon. The knights were first on the board, when Ellyn Jones scored an unassisted goal eight minutes into the game.
However, Wilson would come out strong in the second half out shooting Neumann 15 to 5. Freshman, Arissa Ward (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) tied the game when she found the back of the cage off a pass from Hillary Swartz (Carlisle, Pa./ Boiling Springs.)
The game remained tied for the majority of the second half, the two teams locked in a defensive battle. Wilson was presented with a final opportunity to score when they were awarded a penalty stroke with 22 seconds remaining in the game. The rookie, Ward, stepped up and buried the shot, clinching the victory for the Phoenix.
The Phoenix advance to 2-2 for the season and will next host Goucher College on Friday, September 14. Game time is set of 3:00 pm
