On Sunday, September 23rd, the Wilson College Soccer and Field Hockey teams will be participating in the “Play 4 the Cure” campaign to raise awareness and support for breast cancer research. For the event, The Wilson soccer team will take on Cazenovia College, while the field hockey team will host Washington and Jefferson College. Both games are set for 1:00 p.m. start.
The Phoenix will show their support by wearing pink “Play 4 the Cure” warm-up shirts prior to the start of the game. The teams also ask fans to join them in raising awareness by wearing pink to the games. The Wilson College Athletic department will also be displaying a Wall of Hope at each game. For a one dollar donation, players and fans will be able to contribute to the Wall of Hope with the purpose of sharing messages of encouragement to other breast cancer survivors, or of sharing a personal experience about breast cancer.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure which is the world’s largest grass roots network of breast cancer activists and the largest source of not for profit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.
Both teams are looking forward to this special event. According to head field hockey coach, Shelly Novak, “This is a great opportunity for our teams to give back and raise awareness for a disease that will may affect these players either directly or indirectly during their lives.”
