Posted: November 1, 2012

The Wilson College field hockey scored three goals in each half on the way to a 6-0 victory over Hood College on Friday, October 26th.

Senior, Tara Fields (Berryville, Va./ Clark County) got Wilson on the scoreboard first scoring an unassisted goal in the 9th minute of the game. Fields found the back of the cage again just six minutes later off a pass from Hillary Swartz (Carlisle, Pa./ Boiling Springs). In the final minutes of the half, senior, Maggie Sipps (Philadelphia, Pa./ Little Flower) converted off a cross into the circle from Arissa Ward (Harrisburg, Pa./ Central Dauphin).

Sipps would start the Phoenix in the second half, scoring and unassisted goal in the 42nd minute. Just over a minute later Ward would earn a goal for herself, converting a pass from Brittney Smith (New Oxford, Pa./ New Oxford). Fields finished the game as she started it; scoring Wilson’s final goal of the game with five minutes remaining in the game, earning herself a hat trick.

Senior, Brandy Holtzapple (Red Lion, Pa./ Red Lion) started in the cage for the Phoenix and recorded 3 saves. Gina Weigold (Charlottesville, Va./ Monticello) relieved Holtzapple late in the second half; however she did not face any shots.

With this win, the Phoenix improve to 11-6 on the season. Wilson will travel to Newport News, Va. this weekend to compete in independent championships hosted at Christopher Newport University. Wilson will take on Houghton College on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and then Christopher Newport on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
