The NCAA Strategic Matching Grant is designed to increase the number of job opportunities that enhance diversity and inclusion within Division III athletics administrative staffs. With the grant funds awarded, Wilson College will create a full time Athletics Communication/Sports Information Director position within the athletic department. Wilson College is one of six recipients of this grant nationwide.
Wilson’s director of athletics, Lori Frey, wrote the grant request following the college’s announcement to become co-educational. According to Frey, “Expanding Wilson’s athletic staff with this position is an important step in continuing to improve our intercollegiate sports programs, and will assist in making a smooth transition while we expand opportunities for our female and male student-athletes.
“We are grateful to the NCAA in providing us with the support during this exciting time of growth within our department,” Frey added. “Our ultimate goal is for our Phoenix to be successful and competitive both on the field and in the classroom and this grant will allow us to strengthen that commitment to our student-athletes.”
This summer, Wilson College will launch a nationwide search for the Athletics Communication/Sports Information Director. The successful candidate will coordinate the strategic dissemination of information about the College’s intercollegiate athletic program as well as oversee the sports information department.
The college will receive a matching grant funded for three years, with diminishing contributions by the NCAA. The NCAA will fund 75 percent of the position’s salary during the first year, 50 percent the second year, and 25 percent during the third year.
