Reformatted Orr Forum to Open Tuesday, Sept. 3

Posted: August 30, 2013

The 2013-14 Orr Forum on Religion will open with a talk by Wilson College English Professor Larry Shillock, whose topic will be "The Walking Dead, Television Advertising and the Epistles of Saint Paul." He will speak at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the second floor lobby of the Brooks Science Complex.

Drawing on the Pauline language of spirit vs. flesh, Shillock will discuss the relationship between a popular television show about zombies and the advertising that routinely interrupts the show about the walking dead.

This year's Orr Forum - Humanity 2:0? - will have a new format. Instead of featuring a main event in the spring, the Orr Forum will offer multiple events throughout the academic year. It will feature Wilson faculty members and guests, offering portraits or glimpses of humanity in light of the claim that humans are evolving, with the aid of technology, into a new form of humanity.

For more information about the Orr Forum, contact David True, Wilson associate professor of religious studies, at 717-264-4141, Ext. 3396, or
