Phoenix Earn First Win of the Season

Posted: September 11, 2013

The Wilson College women’s soccer team defeated Cedar Crest College this afternoon on their home turf, by a final score of 5-2. The victory represented the team’s first win of the 2013 season.

Cedar Crest managed to sneak a goal in against Wilson leading early in the game, but the Wilson offense came to life shortly after. Senior Courtney Bernecker scored unassisted 12:30 in the contest to even up the score 1-1 with lots of time to spare in the first half. Wilson then responded with three more goals to expand their lead over the Falcons. Courtney Bernecker scored again 23:50 into the game while freshmen Nicole Bodulow and Nana Ohene-Manu chipped in a goal apiece to close out the first half giving Wilson a 4-1 cushion over the Falcons.

Wilson dominated on offense throughout the game and outshot Cedar Crest 16-10 in the match. The Phoenix continued to be aggressive and play with confidence in the second half as freshman Nicole Bodulow added another goal to the Wilson lead. Both Nicole Bodulow and Courtney Bernecker ended the contest with two goals apiece. Freshman Teniera Prioleau had a productive day in net and tallied four saves for the Phoenix.

With the win, the team improves to 1-3 on the season. Wilson will travel this weekend for contests against Cazenovia College and SUNY Morrisville.
