The Wilson College field hockey team captured a 3-2 win over Frostburg State University tonight, marking their second win of the season. The Phoenix bounced back in the win column as they held their lead against the Bobcats and reclaimed their offensive spark.
The Phoenix scored early against Frostburg 6:46 into the game when junior Hillary Swartz scored unassisted to put Wilson on the board. The Bobcats responded with a goal of their own 16:55 in the first half, balancing the score 1-1. Senior Victoria Whitbred netted a goal past the Bobcats defense with help from senior Brittany Smith to put the Phoenix back on top. Wilson widened their lead when sophomore Taylor Crouse recorded a goal to give the Phoenix a 3-1 advantage at the half.
The second half was a quiet for a long duration before Frostburg attempted a late comeback and scored during the 63:25 mark. Wilson was able to stop the Bobcats late rally as they secured the victory with tough defense. Sophomore Gina Weigold had an impressive night in goal tallying 12 saves. The Phoenix were accurate in their shooting attempts against Frostburg as they totaled six shots and six shots on goal during the game.
Wilson returns to action on Friday, September 20th when they travel to Bridgewater College for a 6pm game.
