The Phoenix field hockey team recorded a shutout win against Hood College this afternoon on the road, 3-0. The team scored early and played solid defense as they took the game comfortably against the Blazers.
Junior Hillary Swartz scored off a long pass 20:32 in the game giving Wilson a 1-0 lead early. Senior Katie Omori chipped in a goal 28:20 in off a pass from Hillary Swartz to expand the Phoenix lead. The team posted a total of 11 shots against the Blazers defense and took a 2-0 lead at the half.
Senior Megan Schneck scored another goal for the Phoenix off a rebound from a previous shot early in the second half. The team made their 3-0 lead against Hood stand as they took the game confidently. The Blazers were not able to produce much offense on their end as they got outshot by Wilson 23 to 2. Wilson also held the advantage in penalty corners with five.
Hillary Swartz led her team in shots with nine in the game and seven on goal. Sophomore Taylor Crouse followed with four shots of her own. With the win, the team improves to 4-7 on the year. The Phoenix return to action on Saturday when they travel to Washington and Lee University for a 1:00pm game.
