The Phoenix field hockey team shutout Bethany College this afternoon 4-0, snatching a win on their last game of the year. With the win, Wilson ends their season with a 7-9 overall record.
Junior Hillary Swartz built up the Wilson intensity when she scored unassisted 8:50 into the game. Wilson was able to offensively threaten the Bison as they kept the momentum on their side of the field most of the game. Alexis Ankro pushed a goal in when she found an open net with help from Hillary Swartz.
Wilson continued to put pressure on the Bethany defense in the second half and struck two more times. Freshman Megan Sterling scored unassisted 37:51 in the half and senior Victoria Whitbred followed with a goal of her own. The Phoenix outshot the Bison 7 to 2 and held the advantage in penalty corners with 15.
The Phoenix concluded their season with a well-earned victory. They will build off this positive momentum heading into next season. The Wilson College Athletic Department recognizes and applauds seniors Megan Schneck, Victoria Whitbred, Brittney Smith, and Katie Omori for their academic and athletic accomplishments.
