Michael Britt to Give Organ Performance March 30

Acclaimed organist Michael T. Britt will perform in the annual Wilson College Van Looy Organ Series at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30, in Thomson Hall. Britt will be joined by vocalist along George K. Bareford. A complimentary reception will be held afterward in Lenfest Commons.

Britt, a Baltimore native, began piano studies at age 12 and graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Music with a bachelor’s degree in organ performance. In 1984, he was a finalist in the Arthur Poister competition in Syracuse, New York.

A frequent recitalist of classical organ literature, Britt is also a performer of theater organ music and is in demand throughout the country as a silent film accompanist, performing for chapters of the American Theatre Organ Society and most recently, for the Region III American Guild of Organists Convention in Baltimore. He has been featured on Maryland Public Television and other televised presentations on the theater pipe organ and Maryland’s Free State Theatre Organ Society.

Britt is minister of music and organist at Brown Memorial Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Baltimore. He is also on the faculty at the Community College of Baltimore County and serves as assistant organist at Beth-El Congregation.

He will be joined on stage by Bareford, a baritone who has performed on operatic, symphonic, musical theater and recital stages throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
