The Wilson College Soccer team had a tough time on the road in New York this past weekend. In the first game of the weekend double header the Phoenix lost 5-2 to Cazenovia College. Cazenovia was able to score two goals within the first 15 minutes of the game, however Wilson battled back and got on the score board when Senior, captain, Colleen O’Reilly (Mardela Springs, Salisbury) sent a ball across the goal mouth that bounced off a Cazenovia player and found the back of the net. Wilson was able to even the score 2-2 early in the second half with a goal from Courtney Bernecker (Saint Thomas, PA/ James Buchanan). Both teams had opportunites in the remaining minutes; however it was Cazenovia that found the back of the net in the 76th minute of play. The Wildcats scored twice more in the last 15 minutes of the game for a final score of 5-2.
Katie Murphy (Schnecksville, PA/ Parkland) recorded 7 saves in the goal for Wilson.
On Sunday, Wilson suffered a heart breaking, double overtime, sudden victory loss to Morrisville State. The Phoenix and the Mustangs battled through 90 minutes of play scoreless despite several opportunities for both teams. The game was sent into two sudden victory overtime periods. Within the first minute of the second overtime period, Morrisville was able to score on a shot take from outside the 18 yard box.
Two Wilson players split time in the goal for the Phoenix. Murphy recorded 3 saves, while Ebby Boratenski (Silver Springs, MD/ Homeschooled) totaled 10 saves in the net.
Wilson Will next host Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday, September 28th in another NEAC conference match up. Kick off is set for 4:00 PM.
