The Wilson College Hockey team was defeated 3-2 in a double overtime heartbreaker to Bridgewater College on Thursday, October 6th.
The Phoenix were first on the scoreboard when Jami DeVanie (Boiling Springs, PA/ Cumberland Valley) scored in a scrum in front of the cage in the 13th minute. However, Bridgewater came back and scored less than a minute later, tying the game 1-1. The Eagles were able to score again late in the first half, giving them the advantage going into the half.
Wilson fought back in the second half, and with less than 17 minutes to play, Maggie Sipps (Philadelphia, PA/ Little Flower) scored the equalizer from a DeVanie pass. The 2-2 score would stand through the remaining regulation time, sending the game into overtime.
During the first overtime period, the Phoenix and Eagles battled back and forth. Both teams had opportunities, but neither were able to put the ball in the back of the cage. In the second overtime, Bridgewater managed to score after 92 minutes of play, giving them the 3-2 win.
Brandy Holtzapple (Red Lion, PA/ Red Lion) recorded 5 saves in the cage for the Phoenix. Wilson will next host St. Vincent College on Thursday, October 13th.
