Wilson College Gallery Exhibits Work of Lycoming College Professor

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Wilson College will hold a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, to mark the opening of Howard Tran, an exhibit of sculpture and drawings by the Lycoming College professor and artist of the same name.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Wilson College will hold a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, to mark the opening of Howard Tran, an exhibit of sculpture and drawings by the Lycoming College professor and artist of the same name. The exhibit, presented by Wilson’s Department of Fine Arts and Dance, will continue through Dec. 9, in the Bogigian Gallery, which is located on the second floor of Lortz Hall.

According to Tran, his work “explores the Vietnamese/Chinese philosophy that is influenced by Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism, stressing simplicity, worship of ancestors, the cycles of life and connection with nature.”

The artist will discuss his work at 5:30 during the opening reception, which is free and open to the public.

Tran has had enjoyed a successful career as an artist, exhibiting across the country for more than 15 years. He has shown work in college and university galleries, commercial galleries, alternative spaces and museums in major U.S. cities. He has received numerous awards for his work, including Best Bronze Sculpture at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, the Pineda Award at Boston University and the Award of Excellence at Northern California Arts Inc.. He has also received numerous professional development grants through Lycoming College, which is in Williamsport, Pa.
