The Wilson College Soccer team was defeated 0-3 by Penn State Harrisburg in their final game of the 2011 season on Tuesday afternoon. Despite a few good opportunities, the Phoenix were unable to score on the Lady Lions. Katie Murphy (Schnecksville, PA/ Parkland) recorded 8 saves in the net for Wilson
The team ends the season with a 1-15-0 record, with a 2-1 victory over Valley Forge Christian College on September 13th. Throughout the season, the Phoenix had several close games, including a 1-2 defeat to Trinity University and a 0-1 double overtime loss to Morrisville State College.
Sophomore, Courtney Bernecker (Saint Thomas, PA/ James Buchanan) lead the team this season with 7 goals and 2 assists. In her final season, senior, captain, Colleen O’Reilly (Mardela Springs, MD/ Salisbury) recorded 5 goals and 1 assist. Hannah DeMoss (Philipsburg, NJ/ Belvidere) and Alyssa Bernard (Hillsborough, NJ/ Hillsborough) each scored a goal for the Phoenix.
In the goal, Murphy recorded 116 saves, with a .712 save percentage this season. Ebby Boratenski (Silver Springs, MD/ Homeschooled) totaled 54 saver with a .720 save percentage.
According to Head Coach, Beth Weixel, “Although we did struggle at times, I am very proud of the progress we have made this season. I am particularly proud of the way we played as a team during our last two games. Each year the Wilson Soccer team works incredibly hard and improves, and it is my hope that we will take all we have learned this season and keep improving and building on this season’s successes.”
