CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The National Players, America’s longest-running classical theater touring company, puts its own inimitable stamp on Shakespeare’s comedy, The Taming of the Shrew, at Wilson College on Friday, Nov. 18. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Laird Hall.

This production of the play, sometimes referred to as the original “Battle of the Sexes,” has been given a Wild West flare. Cowboy boots, whips and lassos add punch to this classic play, in which sparring lovers Kate and Petruchio duke it out on the western frontier. The verbal duel never stops in one of the Bard’s most popular comedies.

Most recently on the Wilson stage a year ago to perform another Shakespeare classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the National Players is now in its 63rd season. The troupe, based in the Olney Theatre Center in Olney, Md., has been bringing classic literature to life through thousands of performances and workshops since its founding in 1949. Players productions adhere to strict traditions of touring theater – company members double and triple not only in roles, but also in technical assignments such as lighting, sound, costumes and set-up.
