On Monday, May 6, at the annual Athletic Association Awards Picnic, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) announced the 2012-2013 SAAC Awards recipients.

The Wilson College softball team had four players earn North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Softball All-Conference honors.

The Wilson College softball team went 3-2 this past weekend, to finish third in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship tournament.

Wilson College lacrosse player, Jess Menard (Fallbrook, Calif. / Fallbrook) was selected to the North Eastern Athletic Conference’s (NEAC) All-Conference Third Team at the attack position.

The Wilson College softball team will travel to Reading, Pa. this weekend for their fifth consecutive appearance in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship tournament. The six-team, double elimination tournament will be played on May 3-5 at Hintz Athletic Fields at Penn State Berks. The Phoenix will take on SUNY Cobleskill in their first game of the tournament on Friday, May 3 at 4:00 p.m.

– On Sunday, April 28 the Wilson College softball team swept conference rival Penn State Harrisburg, 3-2 and 10-9. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Phoenix took the Lady Lions into extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth inning, with Harrisburg up by one run, Wilson was able to score two to win the game 10-9. With that extra innings victory, the Phoenix clinched the number two seed in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South division for the NEAC conference championship hosted by Penn State Berks. Wilson finishes the regular season with a 13-7 record in the NEAC South, 13-15 overall.

Wilson College has been selected to receive the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Strategic Alliance Matching Grant for the 2013- 2016 grant cycle, making this the first time Wilson College has been awarded the highly competitive grant.

On Tuesday, April 9, the Wilson College field hockey team hosted a clinic for Special Olympic athletes as part of Wilson College’s celebration of NCAA Division III week. This nationwide celebration of NCAA Division III week was designed to celebrate the unique Division III student-athlete experience, which offers a highly competitive athletic environment, a commitment to academic excellence and time to pursue other interests and passions.

On Saturday April 7, Wilson College junior, Hillary Swartz (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) was elected President of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Wilson College Athletics will celebrate its student-athletes when the Phoenix take part in National Student-Athlete Day Saturday. This year marks the 26th celebration of National Student-Athlete Day. Student-Athletes nationwide are honored for achieving excellence in the classroom and on the field, while making significant contributions to their schools and communities.

April 8 through 14, Wilson College Athletics is participating in a nationwide celebration of NCAA Division III week. This week celebrates the unique Division III student-athlete experience, which offers a highly competitive athletic environment, a commitment to academic excellence and time to pursue other interests and passions. Wilson’s student-athletes are among early 180,000 students who play varsity sports in the NCAA’s largest division. Division III student-athletes play for the love of the game, while striving to excel in the classroom and demonstrate leadership, community service and campus involvement.

Throughout the week, the Phoenix have scheduled several events for the celebration.

The Wilson College athletic department is pleased to name Miles Smith Jr. as the first head coach of its men’s basketball program. Starting in the 2014-15 academic year, the new program will begin competition in the NCAA Division III and the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), and will be the second sport offered for Wilson’s male student-athletes. Coach Smith will have a full year to recruit in preparation for intercollegiate competition.

Smith has also accepted a position in Wilson’s admissions department, and will serve as a fulltime admissions recruiter for the College.

The Wilson College lacrosse team’s home opener versus Waynesburg University on Tuesday, March 26 has been postponed due to snowy conditions. The game is rescheduled for Wednesday, April 3 at 4:00 p.m.

The Wilson College softball team’s doubleheader versus Notre Dame of Maryland University on Monday, March 25 has been postponed due to snow. A makeup date for the games is still to be determined. The Wilson College athletic department is pleased to name Joanna Hayes as the first head coach of both the women’s and men’s cross country programs. She will immediately prepare for both programs’ debut in the NCAA Division III and the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) beginning in the Fall 2013.

Due to field conditions at Stevenson University softball stadium, Wilson’s double header on Wednesday, March 19^th versus the Mustangs has been moved to Robert E. Taylor Stadium to the University of Maryland College park campus. First pitch will be at 3:00 p.m.

The Wilson College Field Hockey team will hold several FAST and FUN indoor clinics this spring, geared toward providing individual skills, proper technique, and encouraging the fun elements of the indoor game.

Wilson College basketball player, Vanessa Whitfield (Chambersburg, Pa./ Chambersburg), was selected to the North Eastern Athletic Conference’s (NEAC) All-Conference Third Team as a forward.

In the final two games of the Phoenix's season, junior, Vanessa Whitfield (Chambersburg, Pa./ Chambersburg) combined for a total of 70 points and 23 rebounds, allowing her to surpass the 1,000 career point bench mark.

The Wilson College field hockey and soccer teams opened their 2012 season at home on Friday, August 31^st. The field hockey team started the season with a 3-1 victory over Shenandoah University, while the soccer team was defeated by Mary Baldwin College 3-0.

On Saturday, April 21^st the Wilson College softball team swept conference rival Penn State Berks, 5-4 and 8-1. With those wins, the Phoenix clinched the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South division regular season championship and the #1 seed in the South going into the NEAC championships. Wilson is currently undefeated at 18-0 in the NEAC South and are 23-2 for the season overall.

Wilson College’s APPLE Team traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia to give a presentation during this year’s annual NCAA APPLE Conference. During Saturday’s breakout session, Wilson’s APPLE Team educated a room full of NCAA Division I, II, and III student-athletes and their Athletic Administrators with a PowerPoint Presentation entitled “Successful APPLE Action Plans- Alcohol Awareness Week-Jeopardy Game.” During the presentation, the team described the Jeopardy game sponsored for Wilson student-athletes during this fall’s Alcohol Awareness Week.

The Wilson College gymnastics team hosted Ithaca College for their only home meet of the season on Sunday, February 5^th, and combined for a team score of 145.600.

As the spring semester starts the Wilson College Basketball and Gymnastics teams are gearing up for the final stretch of their seasons.

The Wilson College basketball team went 1-1 in this weekend’s NEAC conference play. Wilson was defeated by the College of St. Elizabeth on Saturday 56-72, and then rebounded Sunday to defeat Penn State Abington 72-59.

The Wilson College basketball team is off to a 0-2 start after traveling to Poughkeepsie, NY this weekend to participate in the Vassar College Tip-Off Tournament. The Phoenix were defeated by Wellesley College 64-35 on Saturday afternoon, and defeated in the consolation match by Cedar Crest College 72-60 on Sunday.

The Wilson College basketball team has high expectations and is looking to improve on last season’s 5-20 record. This year, the team returns three starters from the 2010-11 season and adds several new players to the roster.

The Wilson College Field Hockey team ended their 2011 regular season with a 4-0 victory over the College of Notre Dame of MD Thursday afternoon. Wilson dominated the majority of the game, outshooting Notre Dame 34 to 3.

The Wilson College Soccer team was defeated 0-3 by Penn State Harrisburg in their final game of the 2011 season on Tuesday afternoon. Despite a few good opportunities, the Phoenix were unable to score on the Lady Lions. Katie Murphy (Schnecksville, PA/ Parkland) recorded 8 saves in the net for Wilson.

The Wilson College Hockey team was defeated 3-2 in a double overtime heartbreaker to Bridgewater College on Thursday, October 6^th. The Phoenix were first on the scoreboard when Jami DeVanie (Boiling Springs, PA/ Cumberland Valley) scored in a scrum in front of the cage in the 13^th minute.

The Wilson College Soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat by NEAC conference opponent, Gallaudet University. The Bison took an early led when midfielder Maddie Morgan scored on a 25 yard long ball that just got over Phoenix goalkeeper Katie Murphy (Schnecksville, PA/ Parkland).
