Ski Holm, Recent Works, Large and Small
This exhibit opened September 5 and runs through October 12, but today is a perfect day to see the work again, or for the first time. “All around you, everything and everyone that you encounter could be the next painting,” says Holm. “A walk to your studio could lead to a painting which could later hang in a museum. Ordering take-out could keep you busy for several months. Something breaking could give you years’ worth of material. Indeed, a trip to the supermarket could change the course of your career. FA 116, Beginning Painting
A selection of recent paintings made by the students of this introductory class will be on view in the drawing/painting studio. These works are responses to assignments relating to studies of 2 colors and white (where students use only 2 colors to make a painting) and a masterpiece study from 19th century painter, Paul Cezanne. It’s not even midterm yet, and these students are doing amazing work form a master. See this exhibit!

Picking Up the Pieces

Survivors of violence find their lives shattered. Collage can be a powerful symbol relating to domestic and sexual violence. Crisis can break a victim physically and emotionally, similar to the pieces used in creating a collage. As victims begin to heal and become survivors, they find that the pieces of their lives will never fit together as they did before, but that instead, they become a wonderful new creation. Join us to add to a community collage honoring victims of relationship and sexual violence.

taken a closer look at all the “stuff” you have accumulated?
considered the influences on your purchases?
analyzed the role advertising plays in your purchases?
Well, the savvy students enrolled in A Critical Approach to U.S. Advertising have considered these questions and more! These students photographed their “stuff,” organized their photos in a creative manner and then examined their “stuff.” Students then reflected on their knowledge gained and wrote a critical analysis summarizing their experience.
Join us as these students, and hopefully audience members, analyze their role in an ever evolving culture of consumption. This project is sponsored by the students of A Critical Approach to U.S. Advertising and their instructor, Felicia Lanning Shearer, of the English and Mass Communication Department.

Tie-Dying for Breast Cancer Awareness

Students enrolled in THE 100/200 (Techniques of Acting) will perform a variety of contemporary and classical monologues in an open class setting. The performance will begin at 12:40 p.m. in Allen Auditorium on the ground floor of Warfield Hall. The performance should last approximately 40 minutes.
