WILSON COLLEGE TO BUILD A NEW MEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM
The Wilson College athletic department is pleased to announce the addition of men’s basketball to its varsity sport repertoire for the 2014-15 academic year. The program will be the second sport offered for male student-athletes and Wilson’s eighth NCAA team overall.
“We are excited about the addition of men’s basketball to our department and are looking forward to building a competitive team,” says Lori Frey, Wilson’s director of intercollegiate athletics. “This is a very exciting time for growth within our athletic department and the college.”
The program will immediately begin competition in the NCAA Division III and North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). Wilson will be the eleventh NEAC member institution to offer men’s basketball and will compete in the NEAC South division. Beginning in November, regular season conference play will consist of home and away games versus each South division team, and one cross divisional game with each NEAC North member schools. The top five teams will advance to the NEAC championship tournament held at the end of February, and the opportunity to compete for the NEAC’s NCAA play-off berth.
Wilson has launched a nationwide search and has selected Miles Smith Jr. to take the helm of the new program. Coach Smith will have a full year to recruit in preparation for intercollegiate competition.
