Our environmental sustainability degree will prepare you with the knowledge and skills to become a leader of competitive and sustainable enterprises. You'll:

  • Become adept at making decisions based on sustainable practices utilizing performance metrics like capital budgeting, costing, and risk assessment.
  • Discover ways to integrate sustainability principles into businesses. 
  • Apply scientific and nonscientific knowledge to analyze pervasive environmental problems. 

Majoring in environmental sustainability will build the business and environmental skills you need to become a leader of competitive and sustainable enterprises. 

Highlights 

With our environmental sustainability program, students will delve into the natural and social sciences, as well as the humanities, to cultivate a foundation for analyzing the complex environmental problems that challenge professionals. Our approach's broad foundation allows students to engage with a complete view of environmental sustainability:

  • Interdisciplinary: Courses range from Environmental History to Introductory Statistics, providing students with knowledge and skills from several disciplines. 
  • Collaborative: Enhance your studies by collaborating with students in friendly classrooms where peers and instructors value your input.
  • Supportive: Know that you'll get the support you need with professors available through email and office hours, as well as recordings and Canvas discussions.
  • Focused: Gain insight into topics during focused classes that allow for deeper learning where all students receive direct, one-on-one attention and feedback.
  • Practical: Learn how to apply classroom concepts to real-life environmental problems and make connections between course material and industry requirements.
  • Customizable: Get the most relevant education for your future career with a custom program, including your choice of electives.

You'll learn to: 

  • Cultivate an understanding of environmental challenges through a framework focusing on sustainability.
  • Become adept in community organizing, service learning, organization, and management.
  • Use cross-disciplinary research in the natural and social sciences and humanities to develop a holistic approach to environmental challenges.

Core classes: 

  • Foundations of Sustainability
  • Intro to Environmental Science I and II
  • Environmental Law
  • Climate Change: Liberal Arts Perspective
  • Internship
  • Ecological Perspectives Sci/Humanities
  • Introductory Statistics
  • Ethics or Environmental Ethics
  • Public Policy or Environmental Sociology

Plus two of the following: 

  • Environmental Geology
  • Stewardship of Watershed Ecosystems
  • Science, Technology, and Society
  • Environmental History

Students must complete one of these requirements:

  • A second coordinating major
  • A minor that supports the study of environmental sustainability

Career Paths 

With an environmental sustainability degree, students will be well prepared to work in various industries or pursue further education. Students in this program choose an internship or study-abroad experience to engage in project-oriented coursework.
