The One-Year, Second Bachelor’s Degree TEFL Option

If you already possess a bachelor’s degree, you can come to Wilson and spend two semesters (Fall and Spring) in residence and complete your TEFL degree as a second-degree student. At the end of the second semester you will earn a BA in English with a Concentration in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Wilson College.

How can you do this? Because you have already completed one bachelor’s degree, to earn the second we only require that you finish the requirements for that program. And because the required courses in TEFL are offered on a yearly basis, you can complete the degree in just two semesters!

Look below for a sample rotation:

Fall semester
ENG 361: Applied Linguistics for TESOL
ENG 311: Structure of the English Language
COM 220: Interpersonal Communications
ENG 2xx: Literature course
ENG 2xx: Literature course

Spring semester
ENG 3xx: Literature course
ENG 210: Advanced Exposition
ENG 355: Internship
ENG 360: Language and Culture
EDU 362: TESOL Instructional Methods and Assessment
ENG 404: Assessment Portfolio in TEFL (1 credit)
(This is only a sample rotation of courses; your coursework may vary slightly).

Because you already have a bachelor’s degree, the program’s minor requirement would be waived.

This is an intensive program, so we require that any student entering it need to have completed their previous undergraduate degree with at least a 3.0 GPA. International candidates will be required to submit TOEFL scores of 570 (paper-based) or 88 (internet-based) or higher, or an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher.
