Tammy Ege ’94, M.S., serves as director and associate professor of veterinary nursing and animal studies. She earned a Bachelor of Science in veterinary medical technology from Wilson College in 1994, followed by a Master of Science in companion animal behavior analysis and counseling from the American College of Applied Science in 2015. Ege has been a faculty member at Wilson College since 2009 and currently oversees both the veterinary nursing and animal studies programs. 

Ege has been actively involved with the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) since 2017, has published articles in the Journal of the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators (JAVTE), and has presented at multiple Association of Veterinary Technician Educators (AVTE) conferences. In 2024, she received the AVTE Fellows designation as a member of the inaugural class of the prestigious AVTE Fellows Program. 

Her teaching includes a wide range of courses across both programs. In the animal studies program, she teaches courses such as Felines and Exotics, Canines, Wildlife, Advanced Seminar in Animal Studies, and Senior Thesis. In the veterinary nursing program, she instructs Radiology, Laboratory Animal Science, and Veterinary Surgical Nursing.

Mary Beth Wert ’10, ’23 M.A., is a Certified Veterinary Technician with over two decades of experience in veterinary medicine, beginning her career in 2004. She earned a Bachelor of Science in veterinary medical technology, along with a minor in business, from Wilson College in 2010. In 2023, she returned to Wilson to complete a Master of Arts in Humanities, focusing on animal humanities and the ethical, cultural, and historical dimensions of human-animal relationships.

Since 2016, Wert has served as an assistant professor of veterinary nursing, teaching courses in both veterinary nursing and animal studies. Her teaching draws on years of clinical experience and a strong interdisciplinary academic background. She is especially interested in neonatal medicine and fostering, pharmacology, infectious diseases, and animal ethics.
