MS-SLP Executive Summary of Strategic Plan 2026–2030

The ability to communicate effectively is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of personal identity, social connection, and community participation. As affirmed by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), communication is essential for learning, working, building relationships, engaging fully in society, and contribution to community life.

The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MS-SLP) program at Wilson College is designed to prepare students to become compassionate, ethical, and highly skilled professionals who support individuals with communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan. Rooted in Wilson's mission to empower students as critical thinkers, effective communicators, and agents of justice, the program integrates academic excellence with real-world clinical experiences.

This strategic plan outlines the foundational goals and strategies for the MS-SLP program, including:

  1. Recruiting and retaining diverse and talented faculty and students to reflect on the communities we serve.
  2. Innovating the curriculum to align with current research, best practices, and ASHA’s standards for ethical and professional excellence.
  3. Providing inclusive and comprehensive clinical training experiences across varied settings and populations.
  4. Promoting faculty development and scholarly engagement to foster a high-impact academic environment.
  5. Integrating Interprofessional Education (IPE) throughout the curriculum to prepare students for collaborative, team-based care.

The strategic plan aligns with and meets the standards set forth by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) and the Council for Clinical Certification (CFCC) of ASHA. It also reflects the strategic imperatives of Wilson College’s Igniting the Future: The Phoenix Soars plan, particularly in advancing a transformative student experience, fostering an inclusive campus community, and contributing to a sustainable academic future.

Through this program, Wilson College is committed to developing speech-language pathologists who are not only clinically competent but also dedicated to improving lives through ethical, inclusive, and evidence-based care. We invite our community, faculty, students, alumni, staff, and partners, to join us in realizing this vision and shaping the future of speech-language pathology.
