Temporary Disabilities
Wilson College recognizes that individuals with temporarily disabling conditions – such as injuries, surgery, or short-term medical conditions – may require access to accommodations. Examples include broken limbs, hand injuries, or temporary impairments following medical treatment.
Student-athletes who sustain an injury should ask one of the athletic trainers to contact Accessibility Services directly to initiate the accommodation process.
Requesting Accommodations
Students seeking temporary accommodations should follow the standard eligibility process through Accessibility Services.
To begin, please submit documentation using the Disability Verification Form or direct documentation. If your healthcare provider prefers to write a letter, it should include:
- Be typed on official letterhead, dated, and signed by a qualified professional
- Description of functional limitations or symptoms
- Severity and/or expected progression of the condition
- Current medications and any side effects
- Recommended accommodations
- Anticipated duration of the condition and any follow-up care dates
If you have questions about documentation, please contact Accessibility Services (acs@wilson.edu). Additional documentation may be requested if accommodations are needed beyond the expected duration.
Examples of Temporary Accommodations
Accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis. Examples may include:
- Use of an audio recorder for lectures
- Testing accommodations
- Use of a computer for essay exams
- Relocation of classroom for accessibility
- Temporary changes to residential housing
