Art & Design

Do you have a passion for art? Are you interested in developing and enhancing your skills while earning an affordable art and design degree in Pennsylvania? Wilson College offers an art and design program to help you embrace your distinct art style and vision.

Our art and design degree prepares you for various careers that test your artistic ability. With studio time and critiques from other art students, you can hone your craft. You'll:

  • Combine technical and conceptual skills with creative and critical thinking to produce art projects on various subjects.
  • Analyze and integrate the knowledge of historical and theoretical perspectives of art forms in analog and digital formats into your art process.

Majoring in art and design helps strengthen your artistic and visual thinking, preparing you for creative leadership roles and careers in art.

Highlights

When you become a part of the art and design program, you can take advantage of:

  • Discipline-specific studios with 24-hour access.
  • Opportunities to have your art displayed in exhibits on- and off-campus.
  • A visiting artist program enabling you to meet nationally and internationally known visual and performing artists.
  • Various opportunities for internships, study abroad programs, and trips to Philadelphia, New York, and Washington, D.C.

Why Study Art and Design?

Studying at Wilson College provides the same benefits as attending an art and design college with the added advantages of interdisciplinary education. As an art and design major, you'll:

  • Study art broadly or choose a concentration in web design or graphic design.
  • Establish an artistic voice while demonstrating your creativity and knowledge of art through original works.
  • Implement independent and collaborative scholarship using tools and methods appropriate for your specific discipline.

There are three art and design concentrations:

Art - Pursue artistic voice through the study of works and intentions of major artists/designers and movements of the past and present, in both Western and non-Western worlds.

Graphic Design - Explore intention, design, and build visual communication materials.

Web Design - Learn intention, design, and build websites from project research to the design phase through the finished product. This concentration includes online courses as part of the curriculum through Wilson College's partnership with Rize Education. These offer students cutting-edge curriculum, greater scheduling flexibility, access to nationwide experts in the field, and access to even more resume-ready skills.

Art and design students have different core classes to help cater to their disciplines.

Career Paths

Art and design majors have many career paths after graduation, such as entering the workforce or attending graduate school. Wilson College ensures students have the internship experience and portfolios they need to succeed after graduation, regardless of their future plans.
